Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

Aims
This one day course aims to provide health and social care staff with information about the Supreme Court ruling on deprivation of liberty in 2014 and its impact on them and their clients. It examines the new threshold for determining when a person is deprived of their liberty and considers practical issues in its application.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:

Arrive 9.00am for a 9:30 start and finish 4.00pm
Refreshments will be provided. Lunch will NOT be provided
This course is a multi-agency training and will remain fully funded, therefore you will only be charged, if delegates fail to attend. The establishment will be invoiced for the non-attendance rate of £100 per person.

- Understand the key parts of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- Understand the case law defining deprivation of liberty and how to apply the Acid Test in their setting
- Understand the DoLS process and applications and local DoLS processes
- Understand the various rights and safeguards provided under DoLS and the duty on managing authorities to inform residents of this
- Identify how their working practices will be affected by the legislation
- Feel confident that they make accurate, full and clear DoLS referrals; reducing unnecessary referrals to Supervisory bodies
- What if people do not fall under DoLS, what is the responsibility
- Understand the role of the Representative + Conditions + Reviews
