Community Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

Aims
This one day course is designed to enable participants to identify when applications need to be made to the Court of Protection to authorise deprivation of liberty and to comply with the requirements set down by the Court for making such applications. Training is intended to increase care workers’/managers’ knowledge of the Community Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Processes. Following training, participants should be able to explain the importance of the Community DoLS and the potential outcomes of its application.

Arrive 9.00am for a 9:30 start and finish 4.00pm
Refreshments will be provided. Lunch will NOT be provided
This course is a multi-agency training and will remain fully funded, therefore you will only be charged, if delegates fail to attend. The establishment will be invoiced for the non-attendance rate of £100 per person.

- Understand the key parts of Community Deprivation of Liberty
- Understand the case law defining deprivation of liberty and how to apply the Acid Test in their setting
- Understand the Community DoL process and applications
- Understand the various rights and safeguards provided through the Court DoL process
- Identify how their working practices will be affected by the legislation
- Feel confident that they make accurate, full and clear community DoL referrals; reducing unnecessary referrals to Supervisory bodies
- The key legal principles governing deprivation of liberty in the community setting
- To identify and collate the necessary evidence for making applications to the Court of Protection to authorise deprivations of liberty in the community setting
