Infection Prevention and Control

Duration:  Half Day Target audience: This course is designed for all grades of staff working within the care setting. Cost: £15 per delegate Course aims:

• To provide an introduction/update of knowledge on the main principles of infection prevention and control within the care setting
• To provide participants with the theory and skills needed to prevent the spread of infection within their working environment.
• To review all theoretical areas essential to the completion of Standard 15 of the Care Certificate

Learning Outcomes:

• Know the main routes by which an infection can get into the body and how this may be prevented
• Understand the principles of effective hand hygiene and be able to demonstrate this
• Have an awareness of common types of PPE and how and when to use them
• Recognise the principles to safe and effective linen management
• Know the correct methods for handling and disposing of clinical and domestic waste
• Be aware of the measures for the safe management, use and disposal of sharps
• Have knowledge of timely and effective cleaning and decontamination processes including the management of body fluid spillages
• Understand when additional infection prevention and control measures are required and what these are
• Know how to contact the organisations that can provide expert infection prevention and control advice in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
• Know how to access other sources of infection prevention and control guidance
